Road To Tehran 10 ; US Conducting Covert Ops In Iran.

With just over six months left before President Bush leaves office, the ugly idea of going after Iran has reared it's head.

According to the New Yorker, covert, US military operations are underway in Iran. The cost of these behind the scenes murky doings are four-hundred million dollars.

Tell The Truthiness ; He may only have six months left, but when you're as unpredictable as Bush and as powerful, it's plenty of time for plenty to happen.

War On Reality Part 94 ; Forgotten Afghanistan

This June has seen the highest number of foreign soldiers killed since the invasion happened in 2001. 39 soldiers have been killed in June this year.

Tell The Truthiness ; As has been said so often, didn't we 'win' this war in 2001? Oh, that must have just been post 9/11 propaganda combined with a poorly understood definition of what 'winning' was.

Saunter To The White House 100 ; McCain Advisor Goes Back To Terror To Win

John McCain's chief campaign advisor has said that a further terrorist attack on the United States would give his candidate a "big advantage".

Despite the fact that this is the bleeding obvious, it shouldn't be said, by anyone in the campaign and especially by anyone who's the head of a campaign. Senator McCain has distanced himself from the comments by Charlie Black.

Tell The Truthiness ; Just for once in this millennium, can the GOP not campaign on scaring people into voting for them, the 'vote democrat and die' strategy belongs in the past.

Saunter To The White House 99 ; 15 Points - The Obama Bounce

A Newsweek poll has Barack Obama at a 15% lead nationally over John McCain.

Wow.

Yes, it is only June, but this much shows either how things haven't really kicked into gear yet or how much better organised Barack Obama's campaign is compared to John McCain.

Tell The Truthiness ; The only numbers though that really matter are the votes on the 4th of November.

Holding Them To Account 17 ; CBS News Chief Correspondent Slams War Coverage

Its now an open secret that the pre invasion coverage and the current coverage of Iraq has been restrained by the networks and other media. Here is an interview with CBS News Chief Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan in which she tells us all that we had know, but much of which has been unsaid on mainstream TV.

Tell The Truthiness ; We need an avalanche of insight like this to get the coverage to truly reflect was is going on in Iraq and why we are still there.

War On Reality Part 93 ; It's All About The Oil First, Iraqis Second

As we reported over a year ago, the plans to get control of Iraq's oil reserves into the hands of Western corporations, were detailed before the invasion and have quietly been advanced in the last five years.

Now, 36 years after Iraq nationalised it's oil industry, Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP are coming back in to pump oil and make billions. Iraq has the fourth largest oil reserve in the World, after Saudi Arabia, Canada and Iran. The four companies have been given 'no bid' contracts because, as an Iraqi Oil Ministry spokesman said they had been advising the ministry without charge for two years before being awarded the contracts.

What a coincidence.

Tell The Truthiness ; So, congratulations to Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP for acting like a greedy heir spending time with a rich elderly relative for no good reason to get their hands on the assets at the opportune moment. Like we said, it's a total coincidence.

Saunter To The White House 97 ; Back Off Barack's Family

The GOP has been told by it's own, Mike Huckabee, to lay off Barack Obama's family. The former presidential candidate said that trying to "demonise" the Democratic nominee wasn't the way to go and would not work.

Meanwhile, Obama said that he wouldn't consider making Cindy McCain a campaign issue.

Finally, Michelle Obama guest hosted on The View on ABC and did her bit to fight the fluff about her fist bump, by bumping with all the other hosts when she arrived on set. Further, she said how much of an admirer she is of First Lady Laura Bush. The video is below.

Tell The Truthiness ; Families are off limits, will John McCain and the Republican Party adhere to this?

Saunter To The White House 96 ; McCain For Offshore Drilling, Like Brother Bush

The President is going to make efforts on Wednesday to overturn the ban on offshore drilling. Which is handy for some, since John McCain is in favour of this, despite changing his mind from previously being against this.

Tell The Truthiness ; A vote for McCain is a vote for a third Bush term? Seems pretty accurate.

Saunter To The White House 94 ; Al Gore Endorses Obama Shocker

Ok, so it's not a huge shock, but it took him a while and maybe could have had a greater impact if it had come sooner.

Still, it's good Al Gore has done it.

Tell The Truthiness ; We can see Gore and Obama doing a SNL sketch together, someone contact Lorne Michaels.

War On Reality Part 92 ; Bush Bin Laden Hunt, Catch The Pigeon

Never one to underestimate the effect of a big announcement or arrival, George Bush is to try and catch Osama Bin Laden.

The President insisted on flying into London's Heathrow airport, because of the maximum media coverage. This was despite the huge disruption it caused. Well, today he's reported to have asked UK special forces to assist in a final push to find Osama Bin Laden.

You may remember at the back end of 2001 the President was meant to get him and never did, because he got distracted by shiny things and invading Iraq. Well now, Bush wants to give it one last go before he's ran out of Washington on a rail in January. This is despite the thin 'proof' that Bin Laden is directly responsible for the September 11th attacks. Shown here with his 'wanted' page not reporting him responsible for the attack. Plus, the cosy relationship between Bin Laden and US government agencies. So much so that he received US medical treatment in July 2001.

Tell The Truthiness ; If Bush did 'catch' Bin Laden, it'd pretty much secure McCain winning the election, as long as he doesn't fall asleep.

Keith Olbermann's Effect On TV News

Here's an interesting article from The New Yorker about Keith Olbermann, his style and the effect he's having on news.

Tell The Truthiness ; Interesting to read about impartiality on news being virtually impossible to achieve and possible damaging.

PS We love the caricature of Keith.

Saunter To The White House 93 ; Obama Fills Sandbags In Illinois

With a disaster that some are calling "our version of Katrina", Barack Obama got himself stuck in, filling sandbags in Illinois.

Tell The Truthiness ; We don't know where John McCain was, but he wasn't doing this.

The Lame Duck Goes For A Waddle

With little to do at home, President Bush has gone for a jolly to Europe and this afternoon meets Prime Minister Gordon Brown to talk about his favourite subject ; Iraq.

Bush is in London for two days at the end of a six day tour of Europe. He is trying to shore up the UK effort in Iraq.

Tell The Truthiness ; Hope Mr Bush enjoys his time out of the Washington Pond.

Saunter To The White House 92 ; The World Is Waiting On The US To Change

The World can feel change in the air, how about you USA? That's the results of a poll showing that the World wants change in the US and it wants Barack Obama to do it.

Tell The Truthiness ; The people have spoken, it's up to you US.

Holding Them To Account 16 ; Bush Detainee Game Is Up

The US Supreme Court has said that prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are entitled to challenge their detention in court.

This seems to be the time that everything President Bush has championed since 2001 is coming home to roost.

Tell The Truthiness ; The cracks are getting bigger, wait for the collapse.

Holding Them To Account 15 ; A Hero Stands Up & Says "Enough"

It came from an unexpected person and without warning. But was welcomed by a large number of people.

Conservative MP David Davis, the shadow home secretary, resigned yesterday afternoon to protest against the Labour government plan to detain terrorist suspects for 42 days without charge. His resignation will trigger a by-election, which he plans to fight on the issue of civil liberties.

He made a speech on the steps of the House Of Commons in which he rallied against ID cards, CCTV cameras and the increase in the length of detention without trial or charge for terrorist suspects.

Tell The Truthiness ; It only takes one person to stand up and say "no", but we know it will take more individuals to stand up, as Mr Davis leads the way. We are not going to surrender our common law rights, no matter how much some people try and scare us into submission.
