MCCAIN MELTDOWN 3 - Cancels 'Late Night', Lies, Letterman Unloads
Then, John McCain cancels an appearance on David Letterman's show, citing that he had to go straight back to Washington to deal with the financial crisis.
David Letterman thinks it's all rather fishy, then as he's interviewing the fill-in guest, Keith Olbermann, finds out that McCain is at the CBS Evening News, being interviewed by Katie Couric.
It was all the more entertaining as they showed the CBS feed from the news studio of McCain getting himself ready behind the newsdesk, not 'dashing off' to deal with any crisis.

The Best Newscast You're Not Watching - CBS Evening News

The CBS Evening News, anchored by Katie Couric has won an Edward R. Murrow Award for the Best Newcast. Specifically, for Couric's 9th August 2007 programme was what won CBS the award.
Despite the win, the network's flagship news programme continues to post low ratings. Another win was for CBS News' Lara Logan, scooping the Continuing Coverage award.
Tell The Truthiness ; The next worse thing to people watching bland news coverage is people not watching award winning, recognised news coverage. To alter a phrase used when talking about the situation that Aaron Sorkin's show Sports Night faced, The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric - The best news show you're not watching.

The Big 3 Stand Up To The Big C (And Other Things)

All three US networks are going to come together for a one hour, commercial-free fundraiser on 5th of September.
Here's the three anchors on the NBC Today Show.
We would have a video here of them appearing on the CBS Early Show, but there's a problem with the embedded code, so click here to go to it on their page.
Click here to watch them talking about the fundraiser on the ABCs Good Morning America with Robin Roberts.

Tom Brokaw : Iraq "Progress" Needs To Be Looked At

Speaking in a CNN Reliable Sources interview today, Tom Brokaw gave his take on the state of Iraq. He also touched on many other areas when talking to Howard Kurtz.
You can watch that interview here.
He also gave some interesting analysis when asked about the criticism leveled toward Katie Couric.
Tell The Truthiness ; Proof that an interview doesn't have to be inflammatory to be revealing.

News Wars Gets Book ; We've Preordered Our Copy, Have You?
A new book by Howard Kurtz shows how the big three networks continue to chase fewer viewers in the last big war of national evening news broadcasts.
Some of the extracts, here, are very telling and interesting.

War On Reality Part 52 ; Lazy Couric - Iraq Assessment 'Not My Job'
The above is a simple edited version of Katie Couric's reports out of Iraq from the beginning of the month.
Couric has stirred the pot further following the controversial reporting she made on a trip to Iraq where she simply repeated White House talking points. She tried to defend herself in an interview at the National Press Club, broadcast on CSPAN-2.
We don't have a youtube video of that interview, but click here to watch.
Tell The Truthiness ; You can't defend yourself for not having a ''Walter Cronkite'' moment by then just repeating what you've been told by US military and administration officials. That is just lazy and sloppy journalism.
